Far North Itinerary

Far North Itinerary

Suggested season: from August until mid-November and from March until June, according to positive weather conditions.

From Port Sudan, after diving in Umbria and visiting the imposing lighthouse of Sanganeb , we move north. At 35 miles of sailing is Sha'ab Rumi , considered one of the ten most beautiful dive sites in the world. Diving in Sha'ab Rumi south tip is in fact for a diver a unique experience; this dive could be done a hundred times and would never be boring .. crystal clear water, bright colors, alcionari, corals of all kinds, grouper expanses, gray resident sharks and various species of fish populate this plateau where, looking out into the blue, the meeting with the much desired hammerhead sharks is almost a certainty.

Continuing the navigation you reach Quita El Banna , an isolated reef with splendid walls that sink vertically. Meeting point for manta rays and shoals of pelagics (in particular large tuna and jackfish), this place also amazes for the beauty of its walls covered with rows of sea fans. A few miles separate us from the spectacular dive of Angarosh , located southeast of the island of Mesharifa, easily recognizable for its particular external morphology characterized by a large coral limestone islet with an elongated shape. His name in Arabic means "mother of sharks" and they, the schools of hammerhead and gray sharks, will be the protagonists of this truly exciting dive.

Heading south west of Angarosh, we will arrive at Merlo reef , another wonderful site, and then to Abington where, on its extensive madreporic platform, stands an old trellis lighthouse implanted by British in the mid-1900s to report passing ships the presence of this dangerous coral atoll located on the navigation route. Before returning to Port Sudan, he will stop at Sha'ab Suedi where the Blue Belt wreck lay. Scattered on the seabed are cars that characterized the cargo of this ship, now covered with corals, where porcupine puffer fish, nudibranchs and large morays are stationed.

This amazing itinerary in the realm of the great pelagics, which includes the classic and the far North, is recommended as a One way itinerary, that is, with embarkation in Port Sudan and disembarkation in Mohammed Qall (or vice versa), thus making a section in boat and an overland with minibus.
